The Club, can trace its history back to the 1910, when the Cork and District Light Car and Motorcycle Club was formed (it incorporated in 1923) to cater for motorsport in Cork.

The Cork and District Club was actively involved in the running of the Cork Grand Prix’s in the 1930’s; however, the financial strain of those events led to its demise.

Some members then formed the Munster Motor Cycle and Car Club Ltd in 1938 and for 21 years ran sporting events for cars and motorcycles from meeting rooms at 33 South Terrace, Cork.

In 1959, Vernon Mount House and surrounding grounds were purchased as the Club’s Headquarters. For many years, the Club catered for ‘modern’ car and bike events but it also nurtured an interest in ‘old crock’ events for both cars and motorcycles. It inaugurated the Cork Veteran Run in 1956 and the Irish National Motorcycle Assembly in 1967.

In 1996, Vernon Mount was sold and in 2003, the 4 sections agreed to form separate clubs to cater for their sectional interests.

In July 2003 this Club, The Munster Vintage Motor Cycle and Car Club Ltd, was formed to promote Veteran and Vintage activities.

On 23 June 2013, the club hosted an Event to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the 1938 Cork Grand Prix (www.corkgrandprix.com)
